After playing with pixplot last week and figuring I was in need of more images for the corpus, since the results were meager at best. After spending some hours to adapt a scrapping strategy for Hall of Light, without any usable results, I have the feeling that I need to reconsider this strategy. Hall of Light doesn’t offer much, that MobyGames doesn’t already brought in. I’ll try to see, if I can be more specific and generous in scope with producing screenshots from playthroughs. MB seems to have had success in this regard.
Visited UNIL for an electronics workshop. We got introduced to some basics on voltage, current, resistance and consumation, as well as Ohm’s law. Basically this here Voltage, Current, Resistance, and Ohm’s Law - SparkFun Learn, but it helped a lot to discuss things we didn’t understand and to try them out in Loïc’s electronics laboratory with cables and breadboards. It helped me understand what capacitors and transistors actually do and how they are building blocks for logic gates. A step towards a more profound Technicity of Graphics Programming.
I had this brief thought that there might be a fundamental difference in how one has to think in regards to video game programming between assembly and basic, since the later already partially abstracts the chip away.
Reflected on the first paper, in terms of what I already did, what I still need to do, where this should go and came up with a basic research protocol. See Metadata, Imagedata and Videogame Graphics.
